Unfinished

This still needs a background painted in. And the card seems to be making the paint go weird, especially the black :(
Aiming to do a finished painting everyday this week. It WILL happen!

Just a couple of people

Worked from photos and observations.

Observations

Moving away from maps now. I want to focus more on the people you find around Soho, and different landmarks.
I went in to do a few observations and experimented a bit with them. Here's a few little pictures.

Cafe 54

Sorry, SUCH a bad photo but it was too big to scan in my little scanner.

GAY

Have decided to make two maps. One on Soho nightlife, e.g bars and clubs, and one on independent eateries, namely coffee/tea shops. Both will be mainly based around Old Compton Street.
Went out on a busy Saturday night and took a few photos of Old Compton Street on my friend's camera, and now I've started experimenting on different sufaces and making an rough a1 map planning the different locations of the places I want to use.
Anyway, here's a little picture of G.A.Y on an old Graze Box.

If anyone knows of any good places to drink or eat in the area, please let me know!

Few more sketches

Catch-up

It's been a while since I last updated, but here's a few bits and bobs...
Some sketches and paintings based on the first few photos of Soho.

Sheeta's hand went a little wrong, so I had to give her a stump...

Final final major project

Been making a start on my last ever uni project, which is a bit scary.
I basically want to make three huge maps of different things to do in Soho, but they'll be more large scale art pieces than maps... if that makes sense!!
And why Soho? Simply because I know it better than anywhere else in London, and it has so much to do i.e bars, pubs, clubs, shops, restaurants etc in such a condensed area.

Anyway, I went to Soho today to start getting research photos. The majority turned out to be blurry, but here's a few I managed to salvage...

2010, my year of loss

So for professional practice we were set a brief to make a personal book, using no pencils or pens, in a day.
I based mine on everything I've lost in the last year. It's a pretty impressive list if I do say so myself...

Here's a few of my more impressive losses...

Final Book

FINALLY finished. Thank god! I decided to print and bind the book myself as I didn't trust sending it off. So I got some surprisingly nice paper from Rymans and after figuring out the page positions of photoshop, binded it together with the help of my housemate's specialist book binding theads. Thanks Alex!!
Anyways, here it is.

Due to adverse weather conditions...

the Side-Effects art sale was a bit on the empty side. Damn tubes and snow! But it was still a good experience and despite the weather, good times were had.
