Cake-pops and pens

I love exciting post, so I was thrilled to recieve these today made by the lovely Emma Greensmith. So cute!

Trying to reacquaint myself with pens as I've been pretty much exclusively using paints for the last few months.

The dodgy Spike and Draco Malfoy portraits are part of a new project. More info to be revealed soon! Also, I'm aware of the terrible camera skills. I'm staying in London for a few weeks with no scanner...

Kiwi

Found this floating around my old portfolio. I've had him for a few months. A little experiment combining Elvis and Kiwi birds, as inspired by my sister's two favourite things at the time...

He'll be on sale alongside my illustrations and old clothes at the Hackney Wick Flea Market this Sunday, not to mention the other artists/bakers/DJ's/vintage sellers there...
Come take a look, it should be a good day!

Girls + Zines at Tatty Devine

So I managed to catch Girls + Zines at Tatty Devine before it ended! It was awesome to see my own zines on display among such an amazing and varied collection. If you missed it, all zines will be on archive at the The Women's Library for your viewing pleasure...

These were some of my favourites... (click on the artist names to go to their websites)

Cooking With Christ by Chloe Greenfield
A compilation of yummy Bible inspired recipes accompanied by her own illustrations. I thought the 'choco-virgins' looked particularly scrummy...

I loved the illustrations in 'Tomboy' by Eleni Kalorkoti

As an avid John Hughes fan, I couldn't help but fall in love with this celebration of his films: 'If You Were Here' by Victoria

'Discover. Draw. Display' by Maya Alvarado is a collection of beautifully illustrated everyday objects.

With my unfulfilled dream of being a skateboarder (I fell off the one and only time I ever attempted it), I loved 'Brash' by Alana, an eclectic collection of illustrations, photographs and interviews celebrating girls who skateboard.

'A Life Less Ordinary' by Chloe Cook is a beautifully illustrated collection of portraits of decievingly mundane looking people who've led extraordinary lives.

'the friends that I skate with & run joke with' by Nina Manandhar was a gorgeous collection of black and white photographs documenting the day of a group of friends in London.

And finally, I'd be a bad friend if I didn't mention Sheeta Li's illustrated celebration of Johnathan Creek, bound together into a beautiful concertina...

And Isobel Kho's humourous illustrated anthology of the TV shows we all love to hate (yet still end up watching) in 'Guilty Pleasure Television'.

A big thanks to Barbara Ryan for creating/curating the exhibition!

And on a side note, I stumbled across Gosh on my travels...a newly opened shop on the corner of Berwick Street.

It's a treasure-trove of all the comics/graphic novels/zines you could ever imagine. If you're ever around Soho, you should definately check it out!

Westminster Illustration 2011

So a little belated, but I'd thought I'd share some of the treats I picked up from our degree show earlier on in the Summer.
(Excuse the dodgy paperweights, this is what happens when you're between homes and your posters are all rolled up for weeks on end!)

Firstly, this beautiful A1 screenprinted poster by Sam Hawkins detailing his very own 'A-Z of Illustration':

This atmospheric painting by Sarah Kirk printed onto a postcard:

And an excerpt taken from Isobel Kho's epic shoe collection, printed onto a postcard:

And I found this A1 screenprinted beauty by Tom Baxter, who is actually a graduate from 2010. But it's gorgeous so I thought I'd share!

Girls + Zines

From the 3rd of August, my Soho zine and Date zine will be in the Tatty Devine boutique in Brick Lane as part of 'Girls + Zines', an exhibition showcasing...well...zines made by girls!
The private view is on Wednesday the 3rd from 6-9pm and the show goes on for a month. Unfortunatley I won't be able to attend on Wednesday as I'm stuck in Dorset this week, but you should definately go check it out!

Quite looking forward to see what everyone else has come up with too!

Finished zines

Finally finished my 'Things Not to Say On a Lesbian Date' zine, unfortunately all based on true quotes said by my friends! I also  re-did my 'Soho' zine; took out the quotes and changed some of the pictures. I sent them off last week and I'll put more info up about the showcase soon!

More zine bits

Snooper's Paradise

I went on a day-trip to Brighton yesterday, and apart from fish and chips on the pier, the highlight was definately 'Snooper's Paradise', an indoor fleamarket stuffed full of weird and wonderful vintage oddities.
I came home with a collection of old pictures of cats. Mostly because I'm a sucker for cute cats and felt sorry that a photo once so lovingly taken was now on sell for 30p in an old tin. But also because I thought they might be a good starting point for a project...

I also found this rather stylish flowery lady. The name at the bottom of the photo says 'Miss Clara Jecks'. I wonder who she was...?

First dates...

I'm taking part in a zine showcase in August, details to come later!
Anyhow, mine is all about the ridiculous things people say on first dates.
Here's a couple of sample pages...

Heathers

Watched Heathers for the first time in ages the other day and forgot how good it was! So here's a little Heathers celebration...on a mini envelope...
I also have a couple of projects in the pipeline, which is exciting! More about them at a later date...

Papered Parlour

I've started helping out at the Papered Parlour, an awesome company based in Clapham that hold arty events, workshops and have an on-site studio full of talented illustrators, graphic designers, artists and photographers etc. Check them out here.

Here's a couple of little paintings I've done to put on their artist bios and studio leaflets, based on objects I've found around the place.
