Open Day Illustrations

These past couple of weeks have been so ridiculously busy. I've had a Birthday, two new people move into the flat and have been working non-stop, including a 5am start yesterday (waking up before 10am on a Sunday is wrong!). Luckily, this week I have a few days off and am looking forward to chilling with friends, seeing my family, catching up with reading, making the flat look pretty and sleeping sleeping sleeping.

Every year my work holds an Open Day. This year I was asked to do some illustrations for a children's competition. To encourage them to explore different parts of the campus (which is massive) and take part in the activities, they were asked to find the different characters. These illustrations are quite a departure from what I'm used to doing, usually I'm a stickler for detail, but they needed to be simple and friendly. I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out, and we had a load of entries so I guessing the children liked them too!

Inner City Pressure

I've been spending most of this week working then going straight out in the sun for picnics, frisbee and cider.
It was my lovely friend Sophie's Birthday last week so I drew her a card of the beautifully handsome Brett and Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords.

I drew a card

I drew a card for my mum, she has the same tastes as I do so a kitten in a bonnet made perfect sense.
It's a bit scrawly, but she likes it!

Cake-pops and pens

I love exciting post, so I was thrilled to recieve these today made by the lovely Emma Greensmith. So cute!

Trying to reacquaint myself with pens as I've been pretty much exclusively using paints for the last few months.

The dodgy Spike and Draco Malfoy portraits are part of a new project. More info to be revealed soon! Also, I'm aware of the terrible camera skills. I'm staying in London for a few weeks with no scanner...

Catch-up (self-defined)

Time to catch up on ALL my blogging

So....here are a few more observations

Thoughts

I've been thinking about my self-defined project, and what I want to do for The Drawing Board exhibition
I know I definately want to base my work around observations, so I've been out and about sketching people

Experimentation (e.e.p)

More cutting and sticking

Poor girl. Too much gin (e.e.p)

A bit of an old one. I tried to make it as garish as possible. Not too keen on the outcome, but it represents the exagerration I'm attempting to achieve
I FINALLY got photoshop today so once I get the hang of it I can start getting rid of the scan shadows lurking on my pictures. Good times

Collage (e.e.p)

A couple of my experiments of collage and photos. I wanted to make it look as if you're witnessing a drunk one through a first person point of view or in the form of a camera or photo, showing how easy it is for others to remember you...thus saying 'Be remembered for the right reasons!!' Tad cheesy perhaps...? I'll see where it goes.
WARNING these photos were taken from various photos of messy nights so if you're in them... apologies!

Bits and bobs

Today I needed to get out the house so I took a long wander around central. I took a little hot chocolate break and made a few observational drawings...

This past week I also modified an owl I drew back in the summer by adding a bit of colour. I've never really focused any of my illustration around animals, but I quite enjoyed doing this one so I think I'll experiment with them in the future

Sequence (e.e.p)

These were supposed to be rough sketches documenting the deteriorartion of a drink-fuelled night, but I got quite into them and quite like the result. They're in desperate need of colour though.

Class (e.e.p)

I eventually want to turn some of these images into photos. A kind of anti-Skins shoot. None of the glamour, photoshop or handy lighting. Just awful, unflattering drunk photos of what you really look like

Note the zombie eye and lack of chin. Yum

Oh dear (e.e.p)

How we thought we looked...

How we actually looked
